The holiday season, while magical, can also be overwhelming. With old family patterns, busy schedules, and emotional triggers bubbling up, it’s essential to approach this time with mindfulness and care. We have got you. Even if you can't be in Costa Rica with us right now.
"Have you ever heard the saying, 'If you think you're enlightened, spend three days with your family'? The holidays can be the ultimate test of growth and mindfulness."
If you’re looking for ways to navigate family gatherings, stress and pressure more peacefully and feel more grounded and stable in your purpose and can't come to our transformational retreats in Costa Rica this time, here are three transformative tips to help you survive the holidays with grace and intention.
1. Spend Time in Nature and Breathe
One of the most effective ways to find peace during the holidays is to spend time in nature. For us, Costa Rica, with its lush rainforests, pristine beaches, and awe-inspiring mountains, is a perfect reminder of nature’s ability to ground and heal us. When I have moments of stress or pressure, I just walk outside, look at the trees, watch the butterflies and hummingbirds and come back to myself. Even if you can’t escape to Costa Rica, you can still harness the power of nature wherever you are.
Why It Helps:
Nature reduces stress and clears your mind.
Deep breathing in fresh air calms your nervous system and helps you stay present.
Connecting with the natural world reminds you of life’s simple joys.
How to Practice This Tip:
Take a walk in a nearby park, forest, or along a beach.
Use the 4-7-8 breathing technique: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds. Repeat several times to restore your inner calm.
If you’re in Costa Rica, consider joining one of our retreats for full nature immersion.
2. Honor How Far You’ve Come & Stay with your Practice
The holidays can trigger memories, emotions, and sometimes insecurities. Whether it’s old family patterns or unmet expectations, it’s easy to fall into self-doubt. This season, shift your focus to celebrating your growth and resilience.
Why It Helps:
Reflecting on your progress builds self-compassion and self-confidence.
It transforms challenging moments into opportunities for gratitude. And if you have read our last posts you know how powerful that can be.
It allows you to navigate triggers with a sense of empowerment.
How to Practice This Tip:
Spend a few minutes journaling about your achievements and the personal growth you’ve experienced this year. Write down mile-stones. Write down the little things.
Do your morning practice, even though it might be hard to find the space and the time for it, don't skip it! Even if it is just 5 minutes of breathing, 15 minutes of movement, 10 minutes of journaling/meditating: it makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE! If you need a bit of support, here is our free e-book for an uplifting and centering morning practice: Ebook.
When you feel triggered, remind yourself: “I have come so far, and I honor my journey.”
Consider attending a transformational retreat, such as a Silent Retreat, where you can fully immerse yourself in self-reflection and healing.
And remember: we are all entitled to our own opinions. Don't try to change your family , respect their belief system yet make sure they respect yours and your new-found boundaries.
3. Be Gentle With Yourself
The holiday season often comes with high expectations—from perfectly planned meals to managing family dynamics. It’s crucial to remember that perfection isn’t the goal. Instead, prioritize kindness towards yourself. (And others ;-))
Why It Helps:
Being gentle with yourself reduces burnout and stress.
Self-compassion helps you recover faster from challenging moments.
It fosters a positive mindset, allowing you to fully enjoy the season.
How to Practice This Tip:
Let go of the need to please everyone and focus on what feels right for you.
Set realistic goals for the holidays and celebrate small wins.
Create space for self-care, whether it’s a calming bath, a restorative yoga session, or having a cup of Cacao with a little ritual (if you want to learn more, join our Cacao Ceremony Training online or in person) to reconnect with your heart and intention.
Do a little Ho'oponopono practice to clear the engery and come back to love. We recorded a short session for you so you can access it any time: Ho'oponopono
Embrace this time not as a challenge to survive but as an opportunity to thrive.
